Outras
Estórias
Pedro Bial, 1999
This film is based on five short stories by Brazilian
writer Guimarães Rosa. At the bandit’s
funeral the town waits for his brother’s revenge,
until the wake ends in an unexpected anticlimax. When
a greedy landowner reforms, he gives his land to unappreciative
peasants. A poor peasant girl bewitches another rich
farmer. A cattle slaughterer takes his mother and his
daughter to the insane asylum. These picturesque and
darkly funny tales show the people of the Brazilian
countryside in all their fairy tale reality.
